Lansing City Ready for a Comeback
Lansing has long held a high standard for futsal. Setting the league standards for the Champion Series, Lansing City has a history of quality futsal over the course of the last three years. They've been to the finals 3 times within the Series and have a championship to their name from the 2022/23 winter series. After a disappointing Series last year, Lansing now looks to bounce back and reassert themselves as a team to be feared.
One could argue that Lansing City has the largest challenge as this season begins. Having the benefit of hosting the Series to this point, they now find themselves with with a travel schedule that has not burdened them since the genesis of FCS. With many young faces in the squad, this will likely be a new experience for the majority of Coach Conrad Gonzalez's squad. "We are looking forward to competing this year with some new teams joining FCS." said Coach Gonzalez.
Of course, there is noticeable leadership within the organization that will join these young men on the court. Reflecting on his squad, Gonzalez thought of a few standouts; "Jeremy Klepal is always going to be a player to watch with his experience and passion for the game, but we are also excited to see more growth from a couple of our younger guys who have come up through Lansing City's academy, particularly Drew Barney and Luciano Perez."
Drew Barney is a very notable player with his experience, even as a young player. Having played against the likes of Portuguese powerhouses Benfica and Sporting Lisbon, he'll be building on that experience as he faces the best clubs from the Midwest. Led on the court by US Men's National team player Jeremy Klepal, there is a lot of opportunity for the young players in this squad to learn and grow from the experience around them.
Will the rest of the squad be able to rise to the challenge of the league this year? Lansing fans will certainly be excited to fill the Lansing Arena and watch their team evolve as the league brings them new challenges.
